Three new signings as Gulf returns to Liverpool
When the Gulf brand recently reappeared on Bootle's Dunningsbridge Service Station, Liverpool, it was a much-heralded return to an area of the UK in which, during the early nineties, Gulf had been one of the dominant suppliers with a market share for its Gulf and Telegraph brands exceeding 20%.
More than a decade later, Gulf is once again making major inroads into Merseyside; the signing of Mount Garage, Kirkby and Sefton Street in Liverpool quickly followed the Dunningsbridge site. The latter, a prestigious AE Reynolds ‘flagship' site pumping an annual volume of 6 million litres, had previously been supplied by BP. Securing this high-volume modern site with it's separate HGV canopy and modern Spar shop represented a significant gain for the brand and sent the strongest possible message of Gulf Retail's intentions.
"In a very short space of time we have achieved an annual throughput in the Liverpool area of over 12 million litres, creating a strong base from which to develop our business and establish the economies of scale that once made this area such a Gulf stronghold." explains Gulf Retail Director, Keith Jewers. "The dealer market may have changed since Gulf were the dominant supplier in this area but the principals in securing the trust and respect of dealers remains the same-understand the local market and create a business platform that is fair and workable. Gulf is establishing a strong reputation for its close and flexible working relationships within the independent sector and this is reflected by our recent growth in Merseyside and across the UK."
Formerly supplied by Shell and BP, the signing of top quality high volume sites, in good strategic locations is a major statement of Gulfs intentions. Further recent signings and now pumping Gulf fuels include the 3 million litre former Esso filling station on the A41 at Hooton, Ellesmere Port, and a similarly sized site situated just outside of the gates of the Stanlow fuel depot. Gulf and its distinctive blue and orange forecourt livery are very much back in the premier league!
