Barrington goes Gulf
Another thumbs up from dealers
The Cotswolds is known more for natural beauty and distinctive yellow oolitic limestone than its array of Gulf-liveried service stations.
Nevertheless, the distinctive blue and orange colours are becoming a feature of the landscape as more and more rural sites switch to the brand.
Barrington Filling Station near Burford – co-owned and operated by Don Evason - recently became the tenth site in the locality to go Gulf after 18 years with Shell.
“We felt that the site needed an update and a fresh, new look,” explains Don. “We are not people to make knee jerk reactions, we enjoy continuity, but whilst Shell was interested in renewing the agreement, Gulf offered a much stronger customer-supplier relationship.
“Talking with Gulf is easy and immediate, with Shell it often felt like we had to book an appointment.”
Gulf recently became the first oil company to offer its new dealers a full forecourt meter audit and at the same time recalibrate over-dispensing pumps. The service, undertaken by Fairbanks, the UK’s leading provider of pump and wetstock management, has been resoundingly welcomed by Gulf dealers.
“This is a tough business and any initiative that provides a real benefit is welcomed,” enthuses David Penny, Penny Petroleum. “Gulf is again demonstrating that it understands the market place and is prepared to act in the interest of the dealer’s bottom line.”
Continues Don: “No sooner had the site been transformed with the new Gulf livery than Fairbanks arrived to undertake a meter audit and pump calibration check as part of the new deal. They found one pump was over dispensing and rectified it immediately.
Like many smaller dealers, we are probably not as vigilant as we should be when it comes to checking our pumps. This service has saved us money and provided peace of mind.”
