King Racing takes first honours of 2011
Dream Drag Racing debut for Gulf
The Gulf Racing Top Fuel Motorcycle of Ian King has made a blockbuster start to the 2011 FIM UEM European Top Fuel Bike Championship.
Competing on Gulf’s premium range of lubricants and gear oils – the new bike made a perfect start to its 2011 campaign on the notoriously tricky Kunmadaras track in Hungary with a 6.57 second run at over 200mph on only its third ever run on track – despite conservative power settings.
After qualifying on pole, British rider King set lowest elapsed time and highest terminal speed of the competition on his way to defeating Canadian rider Nate Gagnon to take an early championship points lead.
The former Soviet Nuclear Bomber airfield track is known to lack the grip required by the more powerful machines, so the performance bodes well for the team’s next race and UK debut at Santa Pod Raceway – one of the fastest tracks in Europe – from 27th – 30th May.
