Gulf racers set for UK events
Defining weekend on home soil
International racing comes to two of the UK’s most famous tracks this weekend, with Gulf competing for honours at both.
The Autosport 6 Hours of Silverstone – the fourth round of the 2011 Le Mans Series – will be the thirty-fifth running of the famous British endurance classic, with fifty cars, including the 007 Gulf Aston Martin of Adrian Fernandez, Harold Primat and Christian Klien, set to compete.
Following a disappointing showing at the 24 hours of Le Mans, the new AMR-ONE car is currently undergoing review, so the Gulf AMR team are returning to Silverstone with the Lola‐Aston Martin that helped the team to the Le Mans Series title in 2009 as they look to make an impact in the LMP1 category.
Meanwhile, Ian King will be aiming for the number one spot and the FIM/UEM European Top Fuel Bike crown as the final round of the Drag Racing Championship arrives at Santa Pod. He is already assured of a top three finish in his first year with the Gulf Racing Top Fuel Motorcycle.
King goes into the weekend leading the table by seven points from Sweden’s Peter Svensson, with the prospect of becoming champion on home soil serving as extra motivation.
“It is an exciting weekend for all motorsport fans in the UK, as well as everybody associated with Gulf,” explains Keith Jewers, Director, Gulf Retail. “A good result for the 007 team at Silverstone would be welcome news as always, especially given the significance of Le Mans and the Le Mans series to the Gulf brand.”
“Ian has had a great debut season with Gulf. If he can cap it off by winning the European Championship at Santa Pod, it will be a very special occasion for all concerned.”
