A creditable fourth place for Gulf at Silverstone
Strong performance by Gulf Lola Aston Martin
The Gulf sponsored Lola Aston Martin (#009) produced a strong performance in yesterday's 1000km of Silverstone, the final round of the Le Mans Series, leading home the petrol-powered cars to take fourth overall behind the dominant diesels of Peugeot and Audi.Starting sixth on the grid, the Gulf contender, piloted by Sam Hancock and Stefan Mücke, featured amongst the front runners all afternoon and completed the long distance event (almost six hours) at an average speed of 198.224km/h.
With the regulations favouring diesel engines, it was a highly impressive performance as the car ran faultlessly throughout, finishing ahead of all other petrol engined competitors. The race was won by the Peugeot 908 of Anthony Davidson and Nicholas Minassian, adding a 17th win to the 908's record.
Sam Hancock, driver, Aston Martin Racing: "We have had a faultless race and Stefan was stellar throughout having done double stints, mistake free. We have a good reliable car; I came to Silverstone with a sense of unfinished business from Le Mans and we have done the best we can, it's a good end to the year."
