1972

Reflecting difficult times with high inflation and fuel shortages, the Gulf Racing Mirage operation was run at a much lower level and with a smaller budget than before. Gulf fielded the new Ford Cosworth-powered sports car which was entered for selected races. It's most notable success during the three years that followed was a headline making 1-2 victory in the Spa 1,000km in 1973.

By 1975, Gulf refocused on Le Mans, represented by two Cosworth GR8s.  In its last competitive performance of the Wyer years, the powder blue and orange Ford of Schuppan and Jaussaud took third place at Le Sarthe with Dereck Bell and Jacky Ickx rounding off a remarkable era with victory, Gulf's third outright win at Le Mans.
