6 Ormond TerraceGulf is one of the original ‘seven sisters', of American oil companies, striking oil on 10^th January 1901 at Spindletop, Beaumont, Texas. It was not, however, until 10^th November 1901 in Pittsburg, Pensylvania that the charter was signed that officially registered Gulf (The Gulf Refining Company of Texas) as an oil concern.

By that time the population of Beaumont had exploded from 10,000 to 30,000, becoming one of the first oil-fuelled boom towns in the United States
